Information: The Money Management program assists people who are having difficulty handling their financial affairs. This may be due to the death of a spouse who always handled bills and banking, a sensory impairment such as loss of sight, a physical impairment like arthritis in one’s hands or a cognitive impairment such as dementia. We understand that having assistance with finances is a critical part of maintaining independence. This program is available to people age 60 and over as well as people 22 and over who have a disability.

Support: Many of our Money Management clients wonder why they waited so long to call. Contact us by calling 978-750-4540 or by e-mailing info@nselder.org Solutions: The Money Management Program, developed in conjunction with AARP, is a free service. The program is operated by a staff of dedicated volunteers who meet with individuals on a monthly basis. Volunteers are trained, insured, and routinely supervised. We offer two levels of assistance: Bill Payer- Bill Payers assist individuals to develop a budget, sort mail, write checks and balance a checkbook. The individual makes all the decisions and retains check-signing capacity. This can be a short-term or long-term arrangement. Representative Payee- Representative Payees help individuals who are deemed incapable of managing their own finances. A physician makes the determination of capability. In addition to providing bill payer services, the Representative Payee assumes legal authority to write and sign checks through a special checking account. The Representative Payees are appointed by the Social Security Administration to manage social security income and other federal benefits. |
