Supportive HousingNorth Shore Elder Services co-sponsors two supportive housing sites along with local housing authorities: 27 Charter Street in Salem, sponsored with the Salem Housing Authority, and 75 Central Street in Peabody, sponsored with the Peabody Housing Authority. Rent is subsidized and varies by income.
27 Charter Street
Located in historic downtown Salem, this 12-story building is handicapped-accessible and conveniently located within walking distance of Salem Common, Pickering Wharf, churches, shopping and transportation. Many of the apartments overlook Salem Harbor. 27 Charter Street has been a Supportive Housing site since January 1999. A personal care homemaker is on site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to assist with non-medical emergencies. Residents have their own private apartments that consist of a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, living/dining room and ample closet space. Shared common areas include a large house dining room, community room, laundry room, and activity areas. Residents of 27 Charter Street can enjoy a continental breakfast daily and a home-cooked evening meal Monday through Friday.

75 Central Street
75 Central Street
75 Central Street is located a few minutes from downtown Peabody, the North Shore Mall and route 128. This historic school building as been renovated to provide elder, disabled, and congregate housing. It is conveniently situated next door to the Torigian Community Life Center.
Renovations to convert the Seigletz School to handicapped-accessible housing for the elderly were completed in 1980 and opened as a supportive housing building in 2001. A Personal Care Homemaker is on site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to assist with non-medical emergencies. The four-story brick building contains six 2- bedroom and 60 1- bedroom apartments in addition to 12 congregate units (Click here to be directed to the Congregate Housing page).
